History
Reportedly, the name of Lake "Julia" comes from the name of "Giulia" Spada Medici (1781-1820)and the love of Giacomo Costantino Beltrami (1779-1855), explorer who was assigned the task by General Wm Clark to map the forts along the Mississippi River. When Beltrami reached this lake he wrote; "The lake is about 3 miles large; it has the shape of a heart and talks to the soul" so he named the lake for the Florentine noblewoman, Guilia Spada Medici. Information from Guido La Fianza, great-great-great-great grandson of Guilia Spada Medici.
