Description

Located on the NH-MA boundary, 20 mi NW of Fitchburg (US-T121).

History

It was settled in 1762 and incorporated as a town in 1765. Named in honor of Colonel Isaac Royal, one of the grantees in 1765, who offered $125 for the construction of a meeting house in the town. Before incorporation, it was common land called Royalshire (MA-T1/p40).
