Description
Located 17 mi W of Fitchburg (US-T121).
History
It was settled in 1751 and incorporated as the town of Gerry in 1786. Named for Governor Elbridge Gerry, with whose views on the War of 1812 the townspeople were displeased. Renamed Phillipston, in 1814, in honor of William Phillips, Lt Governor of MA in 1814 and benefactor of Phillips Academy (MA-T1/p37).
