History
It was settled in about 1749 and was incorporated as a town in 1765. Named by the Governors Council in honor of Charles Paxton (1704-1788), Marshal of the Admiralty Court, Commissioner of Customs in Boston, and friend of Governor Francis Bernard (MA-T1/p36).
