History

In 1877 the branch railway line to Winthrop was opened and Breeds Island became known as Orient Heights. The name was quite established by the turn of the century. The former island was sold in 1813 to John Breed who built a stone mansion on the southern slopes of the hill (Board on Geographic Names (BGN) file).
