History
Named for Captain John Gallop, fisherman and noted pilot in Boston Harbor in the early part of the 17th century (MGB 1932). He came to Boston as early as 1630 and was granted "Nixes Island (sic)" and "Nix's Mate" in 1636 (US-T121).
