History
Formerly named Hog Island because hogs were raised there by farmers, one John Smith among others; the name is recorded on 1794 and 1830 maps now in MA State Archives; variant form,'Park Island' was introduced by a Mr. West in 1920's without success (Board on Geographic Names (BGN) files).
