Description
Located on Massachusetts Bay, 4 mi NW of Plymouth (US-T121).
History
Settled in 1620, incorporated as a town in 1726. Name may have been suggested by Lieutenant Governor Dummer on the 28th day of May, 1726, the birthday of George I, the reigning Sovereign; it may have been named for Evelyn Pierrepont, first Duke of Kingston, Lord of The Privy Seal, Lord President of the Council, 1716-1720, news of whose death arrived just before the town was named (MA-T1/p25).
