Description

Located 12 mi SE of Boston (US-T121).

History

Settled in 1630, incorporated as a town in 1635. May have been named for Weymouth, England, home of some of the early settlers. Another theory is that it is named for Captain George Weymouth, English explorer and navigator. Before 1635, it was known as the plantation of Wessaguscus (MA-T1/p50).
