Located 15 mi S of Boston (US-T121).
History
Settled in 1730, incorporated as a town in 1797. Probably named for Canton, China, when Elijah Dunbar, a prominent citizen, figured that it was directly possible that the growing importance of the China trade had some influence on the selection of the name (MA-T1/p12)
