History
Settled in 1640, incorporated as a town in 1642. Named for Woburn, Bedfordshire, England, the birthplace of Captain Robert Sedgewick of Charlestown, MA, the parent town of Woburn. Before 1642, it was known as Charlestowne Village (MA-T1/p52). The name means 'crooked stream,' 'bourne,' or 'burn' (US-T121/Steele).
