Located 10 mi N of Boston (US-T121).
History
Settled in 1639, incorporated as the town of South Reading in 1812. So named because it was originally the southern part of Reading. Renamed Wakefield in 1868 for Cyrus Wakefield (1811-1873), prominent business man and town benefactor (MA-T1/p47).
