Description

Located 18 mi E of Worcester (US-T121).

History

Settled about 1750, incorporated as a town in 1846. Named for the country home of Henry Clay of Kentucky. This was suggested by a member of the state House of Representatives Committee on Towns, in place of Unionville, the name on the petition for incorporation. The latter name was originally chosen because the town was to include parts of Framingham, Holliston, and Hopkinton (MA-T1/p7).
