Description
Heads at the junction of the Ware and the Quaboag Rivers, flows W for 18 miles to the Connecticut River 0.8 mi W of Chicopee; Cities of Chicopee and Springfield and Towns of Ludlow, Wilbraham, and Palmer.
History
Chicopee is an Indian name meaning 'violent water' (Douglas-Lithgow) 'cedar growth' (MGB 1932) or 'cedar tree' or 'birch bark place' (Stelle).
