Located in Berkshire Hills, 14 mi W of Greenfield (US-T121).
History
Settled in 1771, incorporated as a town in 1792. Named in honor of Major Joseph Hawley (1723-1778) of Northampton, ardent worker for American rights in pre-revolutionary days. Before 1792, it was the plantation called Number Seven (US-T121).
