Located in Berkshire Hills, 14 mi W of Greenfield (US-T121).
History
Settled about 1742, incorporated as a town in 1765. Named in honor of James Caulfield (1728-1799), created Earl of Charlemont in England. Formerly called Boston Township No. 1 and Chickleys Town after the partnership of Chickley and Keys, owners of the land (MA-T1/p12).
