Description

Located in Berkshire Hill, on the VT-MA boundary, 6 mi N of Greenfield (US-T121).

History

Settled 1738, incorporated as a town in 1762. Named for Sir Francis Bernard (1712-1779), provincial governor of MA, 1760-1769 under George the Third. Before 1762, it was the new plantation called Falltown (MA-T1/p9).
