Off the E coast of Cape Ann in the Atlantic Ocean 2.5 mi SE of Rockport; Town of Rockport.
History
Named for Antony Thacher who was shipwrecked here onAugust 15, 1635, and to whom the island was granted on January 9, 1636 by the General Court of Massachusetts Bay Colony (MGB 1932). The island was originally "named after my own name "Thacher's Woe" (Board on Geographic Names (BGN) files).
