Description
Located 10 mi NW of Gloucester (US-T121).
History
Settled in 1633, incorporated as a town in 1634. Named for Ipswich in Suffolk County, England, 'in acknowledgement of the great honor and kindness done to our people, who took shipping there.' Before incorporation, it was the common land called 'Agawam' (MA-T1/p25).
