Description
Located 6 mi W of Gloucester (US-T121).
History
Settled in 1639 and incorporated as a town in 1838. Possibly named for George Peabody (1793-1869), a native of Peabody, MA and famous London banker. According to another tradition, however, the name was selected because four or five men among those who formulated the plans of incorporation bore the name (MA-T1/p20).
