Located NW of Salem; Essex County (US-T121).
History
Settled in 1629, incorporated as the Town of South Danvers, 1855, as a city in 1916. Called South Danvers. Renamed Peabody in 1868, in honor of George Peabody (1795-1869), prominent banker and philanthropist (MA-T1/p3)
