Description
Located on Massachusetts Bay, 26 mi NE of Boston; Essex County (US-T121).
History
Settled 1623, incorporated as a town in 1642, and as a city in 1873. Named for Gloucester, England, from which some of the early settlers came. The town was formed from common lands called 'Cape Ann' (MA-T1/p20).
