One of the Elizabeth Island between Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound 5 mi NW of Cape Higgon; Town of Gosnold.
History
Indian word meaning "Middle Island" (MGB 1932). During the war of 1812, the island was used by the British as a naval base (MA-T5/p555)
