Description
Located 9 mi SW of Taunton (US-T121).
History
Settled in 1636 and incorporated in 1645. Name selected by the Reverend Samuel Newman (1600-1663), who moved there from Weymouth, because, as he said, the Hebrew meaning of the word, 'the Lord hath made room for us,' was fulfilled. Before 1645 it was known as the common land called Seacunck (MA-T1).
