Description

Located 6 mi NE of Taunton (US-T121).

History

Settled in 1694 and incorporated as a town in 1725. May have been named for Governors John (1625-1705) and Nicholas (1593-1675) Easton of RI. The name, however, may be a contraction of 'East End (of Taunton North Purchase) or the 'East End' (of Norton), the East End references being shortened to East Town and then to Easton (MA-T1).
