Description
Extends SW from Cape Cod Canal on the N side of the Elizabeth Islands to a line between Gooseberry Neck and Cuttyhunk Island S and E of New Bedford; Towns of Westport, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, Marion Wareham, Bourne, Falmouth, and Goshold and City of New Bedford. Incomplete record.
History
Probably named for the osprey (not unlike the bald buzzard of England), formerly common on the shores of this bay (MGB 1932); early references may be to the English buzzard, a kind of hawk (US-T121).
