History

Developed for park and recreational purposes, in the Potomac River. Named for Frederick Law Olmstead, Senior and Junior, landscape architects, whose influence for half a century, from 1900 on, contributed greatly to the orderly expansion of Washington and its parks; the full name, Frederick Law Olmsted Island, may be used if desired.
