Description

Located on the eastern side of Northwest Harbor in downtown Baltimore, just southeast of Patterson Park.

History

This historic Baltimore neighborhood was originally a plantation owned by John O'Donnell, an Irish sea captain. O'Donnell named the area to commemorate the first commercial freight containing silks and teas from Canton, China to Baltimore in 1785. Later in 1828, the Canton Company constructed wharfs, a railroad, and other buildings on this site which eventually became part of the shipping compound known as Canton Yard. (US-T121)
