Description

Heads at the east end of Lake Waterford, flows northeast through Elvaton, then east-southeast and southeast, to enter the Chesapeake Bay at Cape Saint Claire, 9.7 km (6 mi) northeast of Annapolis.

History

Originally called Magoty River, possibly for the larvae of mosquitoes, which some residents say are still abundant. An Indian word meaning "small plain devoid of timber.''
