History
Named by a resolution of the Legislature of the State of Maine, April 2, 1931, in honor of Percival P Baxter, former Governor of Maine, who took a leading part in the creation of the Mount Katahdin State Park, and who in 1931 donated Mount Katahdin to the State of Maine.
