Description
Located in Grand Lake Matagamon, 0.7 mi east of the mouth of Trout Brook, and 31 miles west of Smyrna Mills.
History
A proposal to change the name Louse Island to Thoreau Island was submitted in May 1969; in March 1970, the proposal was withdrawn from U.S. Board on Geographic Names (USBGN) consideration because the Maine Legislature declined to consider the name change.
