Located along the south-central coast of Maine.
History
Knox County was the last County to be incorporated in Maine (1860) and was formed from portions of Lincoln and Waldo Counties. Knox County was named for General Henry Knox, a well respected statesman from Maine who served George Washington as his first Secretary of War. (US-T131/1955/ME Place Names,p9)
