Located in southeast Kentucky, about 160 km (100 mi) southeast of Lexington; County Seat: Whitesburg.
History
Established in 1842, named for Robert P Letcher (1788-1861), US Congressman from 1823 to 1835, Kentucky Governor from 1840-1844, and Minister to Mexico from 1849 to 1852. (KY-T1/p170)
