Description
Located in southestern Kentucky, along the boundary with Virginia, about 160 km (100 mi) southeast of Lexington; County Seat: Harlan.
History
Established in 1819, named for Major Silas Harlan (1752-1782), an original "Salt R" settler, who fought under General George Rogers Clark and was killed in Illinois in the Battle of Blue Licks. (KY-T1/p131)
