Description
Located in southern Kentucky along the boundary with Virginia and Tennessee, 160 km (100 mi) southeast of Lexington; County Seat: Pineville.
History
Established in 1867 as Josh Bell County and named for Joshua Fry Bell (1811-1870), a US Congressman and member of the Kentucky Legislature from 1864 to 1867. The county name was changed to Bell County in 1872. (KY-T1/p19)
