Description

Located in southwestern Kentucky along the Ohio River and the boundary with Illinois, about 32 km (20 mi) west of Paducah; County Seat: Wickliffe.

History

Established in 1842, named for Bland W Ballard (1761-1853), a member of George Rogers Clark's Ohio and Wabash campaign. He fought in the war of 1812, and later served in the Kentucky Legislature. (KY-T1/p13)
