History

The feature is reportedly at or near this location based on local information and the source. The only known reference is on page 3 in Indiana Geological Survey Annual Report 005, 1873. The reference is "The eddy is just below the first rapid. The early settlers availed themselves of this eddy as a landing place, and made portages from this landing to Jeffersonville..." The origin of the specific name Bloom is unknown. This feature is classified as historical because there is no other known refernce and this area of the river has been altered somewhat since the late nineteenth century with various water control devices, and so the natural eddy likley no longer exists.
