History
Public Law 96-379, Oct. 6, 1980, named the reservoir Clarks Hill Lake. Public Law 100-209, Dec 23, 1987, renamed the reservoir in honor of J. Strom Thurmond (1902-2003), United States Senator and Governor of South Carolina.
