Located in northeastern Georgia, 48 km (30 mi) north northeast of Athens; County Seat: Carnesville.
History
Established 25 February 1784, as an original County. Named for Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), statesman, scientist, and writer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (GA-T21/p87/88)
