Description
Located in the southwestern corner of Georgia along the boundaries with Florida and Alabama, 96 km (60 mi) southwest of Albany; County Seat; Bainbridge.
History
Established 8 December 1823, named in honor of Stephen Decatur (1779-1820), a Maryland native who served as US Navy Commodore. He was killed after a duel with Commodore James Barron. (GA-T21/p62)
