Located in southeastern Georgia along the boundary with Florida, 164 km (102 mi) southwest of Savannah; County Seat: Folkston.

Created 11 February 1854 from Camden County; named in honor of Robert Milledge Charlton (1807-1854), Mayor of Savannah and later US Senator. (GA-T21/p40)
