Located in northwestern Georgia, along the boundary with Tennessee, 135 km (84 mi) northwest of Atlanta; County Seat: Ringgold.

Created on 5 December 1853 from Walker and Whitfield Counties; name is derived from the Cherokee Indian word "catoosa" meaining uncertain. (GA-T21/p37)
