Description
Located in central Georgia, 68 km (42 mi) southeast of Atlanta; County Seat: Jackson.
History
Established on 24 December 1825 from Henry and Monroe Counties; named in honor of Captain Samuel Butts (1777-1814) who was killed in the Battle of Challibbee against the Upper Creek Indians. (GA-T21/p30)
