Description
Located in southern Georgia along the boundary with Florida, 87 km (54 mi) southeast of Albany; County Seat: Quitman.
History
Established on 11 December 1858 from Lowndes and Thomas Counties; named in honor of South Carolina native Preston Smith Brooks (1819-1857), who served in the Mexican War and later as a U S Senator. (GA-T21/p26)
