Description

Located in northwestern Georgia, 58 km (36 mi) northwest of Atlanta; County Seat: Cartersville.

History

Established 3 December 1861 from Cherokee County as Cass County for General Lewis Cass; the name was changed to Bartow County on 6 December 1861 to honor Brigadier General Francis Stebbins Bartow (1816-1861), a former State Senator who was killed in the First Battle of Manassas. (GA-T21/p15)
