History
Named Cap Francois by the French explorer, Jean Ribault, on April 30, 1562. Officially named Cape Francis by BGN decision 1985. In 2009, the BGN changed the name to French Cape, to recognize its original intent; that is, evidence shows the cape was likely named for the nation of France not for King Francois.
