Description
115 acres; located in the Florida Keys 7.7 km (4.8 mi) SW of Missouri Key, 2.6 km (1.6 mi) SE of Mangrove Key; the name recognizes the fact that the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America have managed and used the island for many years.
History
This feature was once the most westerly of three islands that were known collectively as Spanish Harbor Keys. As a result of landfill efforts, this island and the two others have become one landmass. In June 2010 the BGN approved a proposal to render this feature and name historical and to apply the new name Scout Key to the entire landmass.
