Description
A manmade extension of the Wacissa River; located within the Aucilla Wildlife Management Area.
History
Named for the slaves who worked on its construction in the 1830's and 1840's. In January 2006, the U.S. Board on Geographic Names considered a request to rename the canal "Cotton Run Canal," but citing a lack of local support for the change and a lack of evidence that the existing name was offensive to the local population, the change was rejected.
