Description

The body of water that straddles the boundary between the City of Fort Lauderdale and the City of Hollywood, along the Intracoastal Waterway.

History

Prior to the 1920's, this name applied to a natural body of water located west of the New River Inlet and in the vicinity of Port Everglades. Subsequent dredging and harbor development have resulted in significent changes to the shape and location of the lake. The body of water was named in the early twentieth century by surveyor Arthur Williams for Mabel White, his partner's future wife.
