Description
Located in the Sangre de Cristo Range, 7.2 km (4.5 mi) south-southwest of Medano Pass, 5.6 km (3.5 mi) north of Mosca Pass; in Great Sand Dunes National Monument.
History
"Zwischen" is German for "between"; name is reminiscent of early German settlement in the area and describes the summit's location between Medano Pass and Mosca Pass. A proposal to change the name Mount Zwischen to Medano Peak was submitted in June 2001. In June 2004, the proposal was rejected by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (USBGN).
